カナダとアメリカ合衆国の二国間関係

カナダとアメリカ合衆国の関係は、2世紀以上にわたる歴史的経緯を経て発展してきました。両国はイギリス植民地としての歴史的遺産を共有しており、建国初期には紛争も存在しましたが、現代では世界で最も緊密な国際関係の一つとして知られています。

両国は互いに世界最大の貿易相手国であり、1994年の北アメリカ自由貿易協定（NAFTA）締結以降、経済的な統合がさらに深まりました。また、国境は世界最長の非武装国境として維持されており、防衛面でも相互運用性を高めるなど密接な協力関係にあります。

経済と環境における協力

両国の経済は深く融合しており、大規模な人の移動や観光交流が日常的に行われています。環境問題においても、1909年の境界水域条約に基づき設立された国際合同委員会が、国境地帯の水質管理や紛争解決において重要な役割を果たしてきました。1972年の五大湖水質協定は、この協力体制の象徴的な事例です。
